Terms of Service
Updated October 20, 2026
The short version
NU Pool helps students find each other, make Plans, share rides and chat. It is a coordination tool. We don’t drive anyone, check anyone’s background, or take part in what you arrange. You decide who to meet and whether to go, and you’re responsible for that choice. Be kind, follow the community rules, and stay safe.
Who we are
NU Pool is an independent student project run by its founders (“we” or “us”). It is not sponsored, operated, or endorsed by Northeastern University. These terms cover the website at nupool.app and the NU Pool iPhone app. By creating an account or using NU Pool, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy and community rules. If you don’t agree, please don’t use NU Pool.
Who can use NU Pool
You need a Northeastern email address you control, and you must be at least 18. Use only your own account, keep your sign-in to yourself, and don’t pretend to be someone else.
Rides, Plans and meeting people
NU Pool is not a transportation provider, rideshare company, or event organizer. It does not provide vehicles or drivers, book rides, take payments, or perform background checks. Email verification only confirms control of a Northeastern inbox; names and profiles are self-reported.
Any ride, booking, fare split, Plan or meetup is an arrangement between the students involved. We are not a party to it and don’t guarantee that anyone shows up, pays, books what they said, drives safely, or behaves well. Fares and payments are settled between you, outside NU Pool.
Meeting people carries real risk. Use your judgment: meet in public, tell someone you trust, and leave if something feels wrong. In an emergency, call 911. You take part in rides, Plans and meetups at your own risk.
Your content
You own what you post: your profile, photos, Plans and messages. You give us permission to store, show and send it as needed to run NU Pool for the people you share it with. You’re responsible for what you post and must have the right to post it.
Follow the community rules. We may remove content or limit, suspend or close accounts that break them or that put others at risk, with or without notice.
Don’t misuse NU Pool
Don’t harass, threaten or scam anyone; don’t spam; don’t use NU Pool for anything illegal or for commercial driving; don’t collect other students’ information; and don’t try to break, overload, or get around the app’s security or limits.
Campus information
Dining menus and hours, gym and building hours, BART times and other campus information come from public sources and can change without notice. Check the official source when timing matters. The campus Map is an illustrated diagram, not navigation.
Other services
Buttons like Open Uber and Open Lyft take you to other companies’ apps, which have their own terms. We aren’t responsible for other services or what happens there.
No warranty and limits on our responsibility
NU Pool is a free student project provided “as is” and “as available.” We don’t promise it will always work, be error-free, or be accurate.
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any harm that comes from using NU Pool or from dealing with other users, including injuries, losses, property damage, or anything that happens on a ride, at a Plan, or at a meetup. If we are found responsible anyway, our total responsibility is limited to $50. Some laws don’t allow these limits; where they don’t, they apply only as far as the law permits.
If your use of NU Pool or your conduct toward others leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the costs that result, as far as the law allows.
Leaving NU Pool
You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. These terms keep applying to anything that happened while you used NU Pool.
Changes
We may update these terms as NU Pool changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we’ll tell you in the app about big changes. Using NU Pool after an update means you accept the new terms.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by California law. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Alameda County, California, unless the law gives you the right to bring it somewhere else.
